Board & Committee Positions
What is DESEF? DESEF is a non-profit organization that raises funds for Walt Disney Elementary School programs, personnel, equipment, and services not funded through the district budget. Every donation directly pays for the programs used by the Walt Disney students and faculty. All donations are tax deductible.
Our Mission: Funding Classrooms, Inspiring Kids!
Chairperson (Amy Badain): Plans and conducts monthly meetings, ensures appropriate recordkeeping and obtains insurance for DESEF. Works with principal, teachers, and board to prioritize funding requests and determine along with board how money raised will be used.
Executive Chairperson (Open): Assists Chairperson as needed, runs DESEF meeting if Chairperson cannot be in attendance.
Secretary (Allison Hanson): Take and type up notes at monthly meetings, send email reminders for meetings and post minutes.
Financial Secretary (Susan Innamorati): Manage funds coming into DESEF, work with Treasurer to ensure monthly statements are accurate
Treasurer (Trish Baer): Maintain annual budget, pay bills as needed, reconcile monthly statements
Registration Chairperson (Val Singh):Write and send out letters for annual Disney Dragon fund drive, Manage registration for DESEF, plan popsicle party for open house.
Escrip Chairperson (Sarah Eddings):Manage Escrip account. Sign up new escrip accounts at registration. Promote usage of escrip within but not limited to the WD community. Communicate escrip promotions and results.
Restaurant Nights/”Dine for Dollars” Chairperson (Traci Varanini/Sandra Shearer): Plan and promote 6-8 restaurant nights to promote camaraderie within the Disney community while raising additional funds for DESEF.
Publicity Chairperson (Rebecca Quan): Plan communications to parents, staff, community.
Nomination Chairperson (Jorie Scull): Find and recruit new board members and Committee Chairs.
Online Auction Chairperson (Traci Varanini): Plan and manage online auction, work with Live Auction Chairperson to ensure both auctions are successful.
Auction Event Chairperson (Kim Anthony/Leslie Pugh): Plan and manage live auction event, work with Online Auction Chairperson to ensure both auctions are successful.
Auction Donation Coordinator: (Sarah Frank/Heather Bettencourt)
Records (Ana Cavanagh): Get Donor lists from financial secretary and send thank you letters to supporters of the Disney Dragon Fund at the close of registration (September) and after the school auction (late March or April). Publish donors list in Dragons Den (November).
Matching Funds (Ellen Kumar): Work with parents to solicit and obtain matching funds from employers.
Grants Chairperson (Sherry Rosso): Research, write, and apply for appropriate grants. Work with teachers to aid them in their efforts to obtain grants. Manage teacher requests for DESEF classroom grants.
Walk-a-thon Chair (Open): Organize school wide walk a thon fundraiser. Include class competitions and integrate community building and school spirit.
Spellabration Chair (Open):Organize School spelling quiz fundraiser with sponsors and prizes.
“Coins for Carts”/Coin Wars Chair (Open):This NEW program would be similar to “Pennies for Peace”. Develop school wide class competition program where students and staff can donate pocket change to raise money for ipad cart or new school improvement.
Disneyland Raffle Chair (Valerie Singh):Market and sell raffle tickets for Disneyland ticket package.
*Holiday Art Project Chair (Jan DeVilbiss/Jeanette Chamberlain):Work with art instructor to take classroom art lesson for each grade level and turn it into a saleable item.
